What this actually is

The FTC’s reporting channel for scams and businesses that did not make good on their promises. Be clear about what it is and is not: the FTC does NOT resolve individual consumer complaints. In its own words, it shares reports with law enforcement partners and uses them "to investigate fraud and eliminate unfair business practices." So reporting protects the next person and builds the case that eventually shuts an operation down — it does not get your money back. For money back from a financial product, the CFPB complaint above is the route that makes a company answer you; for a local business, your state attorney general’s consumer division is the next entry.

Who qualifies, and what trips people up

Anyone can report; no eligibility test. Report even when you did not lose money and even when you feel foolish — pattern data is the entire value. Keep your own evidence (screenshots, receipts, phone numbers), because you will need it for the channels that can actually recover funds.
